The indians primarily the Cherokee were removed because gold was found on their land. This made the whites egar for the Cherokee indians to move out of their way so they could begin digging for gold and farming on their land. The Cherokee had adopted white ways. An example of this was in an 1825 census showed that they owned 33 gristmills, 13 sawmills, 2,500 spinning wheels, 760 looms and 2,900 plows. To help protect their lands, many mixed blood cherokees decided to perssue an American life. This led to the Cherokee people to form a government based on the United States Constitution in hopes to keep their lands. Mixed blood Cherokees were fine with these changes and promoted them, but the full blood Cherokees did not approve of these changes, some resisted but not for long because they knew that if they did not adoped white ways then they would lose their land. The Gerorgia Legislature did not take their cultural changes into consideration and it demanded fulfillment of the pledge. Andrew Jackson fully supported the state of Georgia and upon becomimg president, he withdrew the troops that has protected indian territory.
